ATF NFA Forms: Form 1, Form 4 & eForm Guide

ATF Form 1 (5320.1)

Maker

Application to Make and Register a Firearm

Used when you are making (manufacturing) an NFA item yourself, such as converting a rifle to an SBR or making a suppressor. Filed before the item is made.

ATF Form 4 (5320.4)

Transfer (Tax Paid)

Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm

The most common form. Used when purchasing an NFA item from a dealer or transferring between individuals. The $200 (or $5 for AOWs) tax stamp is paid with this form.

ATF Form 5 (5320.5)

Inheritance / Tax Exempt

Application for Tax Exempt Transfer and Registration of Firearm

Used for tax-exempt transfers, most commonly when NFA firearms are inherited by lawful heirs. Beneficiaries do not pay the $200 tax stamp on inheritance.

ATF Form 20 (5320.20)

Interstate Transport

Application to Transport Interstate or to Temporarily Export Certain NFA Firearms

Required when transporting certain NFA items (machine guns, short-barreled rifles/shotguns, destructive devices, AOWs) across state lines or temporarily out of the country.
